A trek for tarts

M drove out of town today for a work-related seminar. Seeing that we have no car to roam around in, the boys and I decided to explore our surrounds on foot. Hats and jumpers on, we headed down to the strip of shops very near our place. To get me going, seeing that I despise walking so much, I would later reward ourselves with Portuguese egg tarts I remember seeing in a cool cafe nearby. It was a pleasant stroll on a nice spring day, for it wasn't too hot or too cold, but the uphill climb was a challenge for my and m's little feet. We saw cafes, delis, floral shops, a video store, and dropped in a toys and babies' stores. The walk on our return wasn't as difficult, for it was all downhill and perhaps I knew that I'm almost near to sinking my teeth into those tarts!

The Portuguese egg tarts I bought tasted very similar to those egg tarts found in chinese dim sum restaurants. Apart from the hint of flavour (like rose essence?), texture and custard were just like the latter mentioned. Good thing that the kids and I spent a slow 40 minute walk to brush away all the guilt I would have from eating all the butter to make pastry puff and cream to make the rich custard. Verdict: egg tarts, maybe no more, but walking is now a thumbs up from m and I!
